Engineer completes more than 30,000 extinguisher examinations for long-term client Kingspan

A Jackson Fire & Security engineer has completed more than 30,000 fire extinguisher examinations for one of the company’s longest-standing clients.

Engineer Jim Smith individually inspects 255 fire extinguishers every month at the workshop of insulation and building fabric business Kingspan.

Jim, who has managed the Kingspan contract for more than a decade, also recently oversaw the installation of a new security alarm at their depot.

For more than 20 years, Jackson Fire & Security has supplied a range of fire and security solutions to the business.

Services supplied to Kingspan include monthly maintenance of the fire extinguishers and regular servicing of the fire alarm and suppression systems.

Jackson Fire & Security also provides on-call repairs to the business’ access control, CCTV system and intruder alarms.

Managing Director, Steve Jackson said: “Kingspan is one of the larger sites we service, and the monthly fire extinguisher checks are essential to ensuring the site is health and safety compliant.

“The monthly inspection takes a full day to complete. It includes a full visual check of each extinguisher, testing, and ensuring each of the 255 extinguishers is in its correct location.

“The site has a mix of CO2, powder and foam extinguishers to cover the different fire risks on site. It’s vital that all are regularly checked and serviced to protect the business and its workforce.”

John Cormack, Kingspan’s divisional projects manager, said: “I can’t fault the work Jackson Fire & Security does here. I’ve been working with them for three or four years now, and they do a fantastic job of ensuring the site remains compliant and staff are up to date on their fire safety training.

“They also help address other issues we have in relation to fire and safety on site. For example, a couple of years ago we found that extinguishers were being moved out of place by staff and contractors as a precaution with their work.

“Jackson Fire & Security helped carry out a full audit, and put in place measures that meant extinguishers were always where they should be.”
